How do you help founders take things to the next level?Founders are far and away the experts on their own products and best in touch with customer needs. Most often, where we can help is with information and advice that spans across companies. We often make introductions to new customers, key hires, industry experts, and operational advisors. We also serve as a resource for benchmarks and best practices on company building so that founders don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time. Sometimes, though, the most valuable thing we can do is to be an open ear for a founder to talk through the challenges of the day. Combined, this type of support can be a meaningful accelerant, which is particularly valuable in competitive markets. It’s a privilege to join founders on this journey. What’s the quality you most look for in other people? In yourself? In others and in myself, I seek clarity of thought. The nature of working in the innovation economy demands that we spend time in spaces that have yet to unfold. It requires articulable vision, even if that vision evolves over time with an ever-changing market. Clarity of thought is critical to align teams and contributes to emotional resilience. The most successful founders I work with are those who can stay centered enough to think clearly even amid chaos or uncertainty. The path is rarely linear, so it is critical not to get too caught up in the hype of good times or too downtrodden by tough times. Often these founders have had life experiences which taught them how to navigate setbacks and built the emotional resiliency required to build an impactful, enduring company.
